Parkamoor and Walna

The planned ride to Keswick for the Borrowdale Bash fell through as Gareth didn’t want to travel due to the forecast. It was looking like a lonesome ride but Sam rang me on Friday night and asked if he could join me. He suggested the Parkamoor & Walna route from the V Graphics Lake District Mountain Biking book. I had in mind a route in Claife, Grizedale and Ambleside area so this was re-jigged to take in the bulk of the route from the book.

I did have to rearrange the start point on the fly and we ended up starting from Grizedale Visitor Centre to ensure a nice finish. The weather was fair as we started and was to remain kind virtually all the ride, the only soaking came 20 mins from the end with a light shower in the afternoon. We climbed the North Face Trail to reach Parkamoor, descended to Blawith and took the fell to Torver. A diversion up Walna Scar led to a descent to Coniston where we hit a cafe for an expensive butty and drink (and a cream scone for Sam). Tilberthwaite, Little Langdale, Hawkshead via Iron Keld then a climb back into Grizedale saw us dropping back to the VC using the NFT. Not quite the distance I had planned but quite a tough 33 miles and a very enjoyable ride with new trails discovered as well as ones which I have not ridden in a good while mixed with ones I rode just a few days ago. I guess that’s the beauty of that area, so many options and such great all weather riding. Can’t wait for the next ride :)
